Weekly-ish stories for people seeking depth and meaning. I'm Janelle Hardy and this is my newsletter on memoir-writing, somatic (body) healing, and stories. I’m thinking about self-publishing a chapbook, and I'm kind of excited about it!If you’re like 81% of the population (according to an article in the New York Times), you’ve thought about publishing a book. I know I have. Actually, I think about publishing book(s) all the time. In fact, in autumn of 2020 I did a 4-month program in order to write a great non-fiction book proposal, then spent six months of pitching agents. I stopped because it’s so time consuming and I needed to put my attention elsewhere (ie: making money to pay the bills). A few months ago I started thinking a lot about creating a chapbook of short personal stories interwoven with fairy tales, and then self-publishing that chapbook. Then I went to a dinner party in Vancouver and sat next to a woman named Rachel. We spent about 30 minutes bonding over being sensitive and introverted people who enjoy being sociable before we got to the question of “so, what do you do?” And behold, I found an expert in straightforward self-publishing! Rachel told me it’s way easier than you probably think. So, because I serve writers and memoirists like you who want to get their stories out, I invited her to share her knowledge with you. And me, since I want to get that chapbook going. My whip-smart friend Rachel Harrison-Sund is offering us a free online class called: Self-Publishing 101 Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025 at 10am PT 👉 Register for Self-Publishing 101 here. Some cool things I want to share about Rachel that you won’t see on her website's bio page are that she went to art school, she’s written and sold romance under a nom de plume (I hope I’m getting that detail right, haha) and she’s generous with her ideas and connections. In fact, Rachel’s been self-publishing since 2014 and has published hundreds of books under various brand names. From romance novellas to recipe books, daily planners to children’s activity books, she’s published it all. (And, she built a multi-6-figure income stream doing it.) When you join us for Self-Publishing 101, here’s what you’ll learn:
Whether you're looking to publish your memoir for yourself, family, and friends… ..finally get that novel or nonfiction work out of your head and into the world… …create a “low-content” book, like a daily planner, journal, or workbook… …or even explore self-publishing as a way to earn passive income… You’ll get a lot out of this class! I’ll be there hosting Rachel and asking all the questions I have to figure out my self-published chapbook idea alongside you and your ambitions! 👉 Register for Self-Publishing 101 here. xoxo, Janelle |
